Leong has across-the-board expertise in commercial and retail property development, transactions and leasing and has also advised on many urban renewal projects. He has previously practised in Western Australia, New South Wales and the ACT.
Leong has also worked as an in-house legal counsel with one of Australia’s largest listed companies. This company operates in multiple industries, including retailing, supermarkets, energy, chemicals and industrial / safety products. In this role, he acted on behalf of many market-leading retail operations and was also the primary property liaison legal counsel for two major office supplies / equipment businesses. His responsibilities ranged from advising on and acting in major store and mixed use developments and refurbishments, sale of underperforming supermarkets and acquisition of hotels and liquor stores, including structuring most of the liquor acquisitions and handling the front end of leasing deals. He also undertook the updating and tailoring of an existing suite of property precedent documents for use in other areas of the company.
In addition to this wide-ranging experience, Leong has expertise in the areas of urban renewal projects, land banking, amalgamations, subdivisions and telecommunications projects. He has recently acted for a major telecommunications company in connection with its fixed-wireless national broadband network roll out as well as represented other major telecommunication clients such as Optus, Hutchison and Crown Castle. This work has also involved significant interaction with many statutory authorities and all levels of government.
He has also handled a range of commercial law matters, construction contracts and disputes. This includes skilfully advising on many substantial dispute resolution matters, particularly in connection with property transactions and construction projects.
